Ask Rev. Kev

Your Questions Answered by Reverend Kevin E. Taylor, author of Unclutter

Question 3: Should I hide the fact that I'm gay? Why is it so hard for people to accept lesbian love?"

Sister,

I feel you in the struggle. My mother used to say to me that there are people who ask how you are doing and you say FINE, no matter how things are and others ask and you tell the truth. I use that same barometer with my identification statement to people. If I know them and they know me, they are asking to find out more. If they don't really know me, then I have to ask why they need to know this piece of me. Spiritually, I would say that you to be as open with others AS YOU NEED TO BE in order to live your best life.

People are so afraid of Lesbian love because we live in a patriarchal, male-led society and men don't want to think about women replacing them in any way. Even when men fantasize about two (2) women, the ULTIMATE climax of the fantasy is THAT HE HAS TWO WOMEN and that he will give to step in and "please" them both, thus making the man MORE MAN!

Each of us must walk our own path and that means YOU being honest with those who love you and seem to support you. The truth of hiding your sexual identity, especially to friends, is that in many ways, you are lying to your friends. How would you feel if you were FRIENDS with someone who was holding back the most intimate and personal detail of themselves? If you have friends with whom you are THAT close, who share their lives and loves with you, you need to tell them. If they find out anywhere else, it could destroy the friendship. You have to consider your friends and the people you are hanging out with and around. If you know them or believe them to be tried and true friends, they deserve to know.

As for people and their fear of Lesbian Love, you should be the Best Woman You Can Be and GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT!
