Your Questions Answered by Reverend Kevin E. Taylor, author of Unclutter
Question 1: Is being a lesbian a sin? It is possible to love Jesus, have a lesbian partner and go to heaven?
To fully answer this question, we have to establish a common ground. I am of the school of thought that fully understands that being Lesbian is your orientation and not some lifestyle choice or sexual preference. It is who God created you to be. There are theories as to why God would create Gays and Lesbians and I like the Native American (and many African cultures) sociology, which believes that we are Two-Spirited people, imbued with the intuitive nature to be able to understand both genders in many ways, and that we are called to do special things.
As to your second question, I am so glad that and proud of you for having your priorities right with God, for you stated LOVE JESUS first. We are called, as Christians, to love God with our whole heart, body, mind and soul and then to love each other. As you walk in that light, you are following The First Commandment. Having a lesbian partner, to me denotes that you are in a committed relationship, among something pleasing to God's eyes.
We are changing what it means to be Gay and Lesbian and that includes the way we celebrate, honor and revere our relationships. No longer are we viewed as the people who hop from relationship to relationship, but rather now, especially as we debate marriage and meet lesbian couples who have been together for 10, 20 and 25 years, we are realizing, even in our own community, that we all desire something more.
As we strive for that something more, we do as the Bible suggested, and create Heaven on earth. Surely, if you can make it down here (as in create it), then you will make it (as in arrive) when God calls the roster and commands you home.
