I never thought I would
Find a woman so beautiful
And nobody prepared me
For the piercing shock of
Everlasting love.
So when you came to me
I believed I would be ready
For you to come and go
And lift me up and away,
For you to come inside my life
Carve yourself a niche and stay.

And when you came to me
I thought I would be ready
To taste you
To sip and suck
At the tender musk
That sneaks down your thighs,
All lush like the waters of Victoria Falls.
I thought I knew how to touch you
Mold your breasts,
Proud and wondrous
Like the mounts of Kilimanjaro.
And kiss the precious landscape
Of your skin,
Flat and infinite like the stretch
Of the Sahara.
Until you would come, come and come
Into my hands and onto my breasts
So weak and vulnerable and beautiful
That you would need me and want me
For eternity and a day.

No one prepared me for this.
This aching that seems like
It is mine alone to bear.
Because no one could have
Told me that I would
Cry like this for you,
For another woman
So deeply housed within
My very own being.
And nobody could have sat me
Down and explained to me
All about the labors of love.

Because when you came to me,
Love of my life,
I was wide open and I honestly believed
I was ready.
Ready to begin anew,
For eternity and a day.
But nobody could have
Prepared me for the pain
At finding myself
Stuck in between the intimacies
Of you and she.
And when I looked up
Into your eyes,
And heard her name as
It fell from your lips
And filled the room with a deep,
Resounding sadness,
I knew that there was
No place for me.
