Why a showcase?
Where can we find books and films featuring people that are both poc and lgbt? Not in mainstream media. A lgbt person of color may show up occasionally as a sidekick in a movie/tv show, but our stories are rarely center stage. And when they are the focus–it never lasts long. (RIP Noah’s Arc.) If we want to read stories or see movies that reflect the diversity of our community, we have to make–and support–our own books/films/etc.
The best way to support independent authors/publishers/filmmakers/etc is to buy products directly from them (if possible)–instead of a third party. Buying the product directly from the creator puts more money in the creator’s pocket–which provides the means and motivation to continue. Where possible, we have linked products directly to the author, filmmaker, or small press that produces them.
