Dark Scribe Press<\/strong> is seeking short story submissions for an anthology of queer horror tales.\u00a0 We are looking for edgy, provocative dark genre fiction \u2013 horror and dark psychological suspense only.\u00a0 We are not<\/u> interested in science fiction\/fantasy, mystery, or splatter punk for this anthology. We\u2019re looking for stories about those terrors that populate the closets of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals.\u00a0 Terrors can be of any shape, size, and theme \u2013 supernatural, psychopaths and slashers, vampires, werewolves, zombies, urban legends, ghosts, witchcraft, demons, and original horrors of any kind.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At Dark Scribe Press<\/strong>, we believe that horror is meant to unnerve, disquiet, and strike deeply at the darkest places in readers\u2019 hearts.\u00a0 We believe that writers should never be restricted within the established genre limitations and should feel comfortable offering up their darkest tales.\u00a0 As the publisher, if we don\u2019t like it or it\u2019s not a right fit for a particular anthology, we\u2019ll simply politely pass on the submission.\u00a0 Taboo and edgy subject matters are welcome if handled in a literary manner \u2013 nothing is off limits if well executed and compelling.\u00a0 Stories may include explicit sex and erotic elements if well-integrated into the tale itself \u2013 we are not looking for a subtle ghost story with a raunchy sex scene inserted into the middle of it.\u00a0 Please avoid clich\u00e9s \u2013 unless you have a fresh queer twist or perspective to offer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the heart of all<\/u> submissions must be a distinct queer theme running through the fabric of the story \u2013 stories that represent the harmful effects of repression, the manifestation of homophobia (both internal and external), childhood anxieties that run parallel to sexual orientation and the coming out process, and any other well-conceived and executed queer theme.<\/p>\n

Email queries only.\u00a0 Please note some helpful email query guidelines here<\/a><\/u><\/strong> .\u00a0 As with all Dark Scribe Press<\/strong> calls for submissions, your query represents our first impression of you and your story.\u00a0 Avoid rattling off an abstract to us in an informal email \u2013 chances are we\u2019ll pass.\u00a0 We\u2019re looking to see that writers have given thought to their story and have the ability to articulate those thoughts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
