VISIBLE: A FEMMETHOLOGY
an anthology of writing on queer femme identity

Editor: Maria Angeline
Publisher: Merge Press
Submissions Deadline: March 15, 2007
Anticipated Publication Date: Spring 2008

Femmes are still invisible. Society can’t see past our heels to hear our stories, so we must continue to build platforms for our voices. Visible: A Femmethology, a forthcoming anthology about the power and complications in presenting femme as a gender and breaking the traditional meaning of feminine, aims to showcase blunt, personal essays exploring what “femme” means to those who claim it as an identity.
Give me your experiences, your inner dialogues, your theories and practices. Please do not send fiction, poetry, erotica, or any material to which you do not fully own the rights. I am seeking prose that is thoughtful, analytical, raw, challenging, exploratory, and uniquely you.
Submissions must be sent as Word files with text in 12 point Times New Roman font. Essays must be previously unpublished, 1500-6000 words in length, and typed double-spaced. You may submit more than one essay.
Author maintains and controls the copyright of their essay and licenses their First North American Rights to Merge Press for publication purposes. Author retains the right to reprint the material in any publication.
Send SUBMISSIONS ONLY to Maria Angeline at femmethology at mergepress dot com. Include your legal name, pseudonym (if any) you wish to use, address, phone number, email, and the bio you would like to appear in the book if your selection is chosen for publication. Put the title of your essay in the subject line of the email. Each essay must be emailed separately.
Send questions to Maria Angeline at maria.angeline at mergepress dot com.
Visible: A Femmethology, an anthology of writing on queer femme identity, is expected to be released in 2008. Once selections have been made, every person who has submitted work will be sent an announcement. Please do not submit material if you do not regularly check your email.

Kuma Message Board?

Posted in Uncategorized on October 18th, 2006 by

The program I was testing to restart the Steam Room ultimately was unsatisfactory.  So for now the status of that area is unchanged–it’s still just an archive of past challenges and tales.

While I was looking at new programs, I found a message board script and briefly considered using it for interactive stories, etc.  I’ve scrapped that idea, but the message board is still installed on the site.

So, before I delete it from our servers, I thought I’d ask Kuma readers–do you want a Message Board?  On one hand, there are sooo many boards already available, does Kuma really need one?  On the other hand, Kuma readers (and writers) may want to interact in a community type forum–I don’t know.

Comments for this entry will be open–so let me know what you think.  Also, if you think we should have one–please suggest a topic or 2.  What kinds of things would you like to see discussed.

Synopsis

Dissent At The Rock is a Gospel Musical dealing with the hypocrisy and homophobia at Solid Rock Church, and its negative effects on the congregation.

Dissent explores the problems, issues and challenges of Solid Rock’s members and how they overcame them.

Freedom, an active and long-time member of the church plans a protest to counter the homophobic and hypocritical sermons being espoused from the pulpit by the church leader, Pastor Samuels, Senior. The insensitive and negative messages were directed toward a large portion of the gay and lesbian, women and the youth members of the church.

The organized protest evolved into one of national notoriety and the case is invited to the Judge Eloise Creech’s National Television Court Show.  The court proceedings expose surprises for Pastor Samuels and the congregation alike.  As the play progressives, we witness the transformation of Pastor Samuels, the church members and the community.

This original production will feature various genres of gospel music, from traditional to contemporary.  Dissent At The Rock will have you laughing, crying, and giving praise, as it takes you on a heartfelt journey through hypocrisy, truth, compassion, understanding and love. This musical is full of unforgettable characters, music and a thematic richness that speaks directly to the audience.  This musical will stimulate and challenge what you thought you knew about the Bible. It addresses biblical and social-political issues that would not only separate the church and family, but also the nation. In the final analysis you will be entertained, enlightened, and there is a real message to take home.
